How to make an imitation of cross stitching or decoupage on canvas
Today's project will tell you how to make an imitation of cross-stitching on canvas using decoupage techniques. This technique is also called a lazy cross-stitch embroidery, because not looking closely at the finished picture, it is difficult to determine what it is before you - embroidery or decoupage on the canvas. At first glance, it seems that it is difficult: to stick a napkin on the canvas and holes to pierce? But in the process of work you will feel different subtleties on yourself (the napkin wrinkled, the canvas from the glue jarred, etc.). However, not everything is so scary, a little practice and your pictures will be perfect.
You will need:
- embroidery frame;
- napkins with a pattern;
- adhesive for decoupage (can be replaced with PVA glue);
- needle (or toothpick).
Decide on the motive of the future picture. To do this, select the desired image and cut it out, leaving a small allowance.
On the contour, make small tears (pinch off pieces from the edge). Thanks to this, the picture will not have clear outlines and the finished work will have a more presentable look. Then, separate the top layer of a napkin with a color pattern.
Pull the canvas on the frame, from the canvas, place the picture and prepare the glue for decoupage. By the way, if using PVA glue, then dilute it with a little water.
Apply glue over the picture with careful strokes. Begin from the middle of the picture and move to its borders. Do not rush, glue the image carefully, trying not to damage the fragile material. If in the process of work on the napkin wrinkles have turned out, do not smooth it, and tap with a brush, gently driving the picture into the canvas. After applying the adhesive, allow the picture to dry.
When the picture and the canvas dry up, take a needle (or a toothpick) and dotted movements along the canvas cells to make holes in them. Thanks to such actions, ready decoupage on the canvas will look like an embroidery cross.
That's all! Place the finished product in a frame and hang it on the wall. The original picture for your interior is ready!
